Please join us in welcoming Haebichan Jung as Great Expectations’ newest senior developer advocate!

Haebichan’s experience as a working data scientist makes him ideally suited to help foster our community and advocate for their needs. Most recently, he was a senior data scientist at Moveworks, where he led a team that—from scratch—developed modules and a pipeline for data validations and quality checking.

"Knowing Great Expectations earlier would’ve made our lives so much easier,” he said. “I decided to join GX to continue my journey in developing and promoting tools for the data community.”

Community is an ongoing theme in Haebichan’s career. On top of his day job, Haebichan worked as a project lead at Towards Data Science, where he developed their YouTube channel and interviewed a number of leading data scientists.

“I’m really excited to combine my professional experience as a data scientist with my other passion of developing tech communities,” Haebichan said.

Even outside of tech, Haebichan finds community-building rewarding: he’s deeply involved in fostering the strength of the Asian community wherever he finds himself and enjoys organizing social and cultural events with that goal.

He’s also an avid member of a third community: musicians. A classically trained pianist, he naturally took an interest when AI developers began to create algorithms for generating music.

“The ways in which they thought about generating music was very different from how actual professional musicians would write music,” he said. “I decided to write about this and try to go against the AI trend to provide alternate ways to generate music.”

Whether working, event planning, or composing, Haebichan uses auto mode to optimize his computer experience to current conditions. He’s currently based out of NYC, after stints in San Francisco and Austin.
