Superconductive, the team behind Great Expectations

Thanks to George Anadiotis and ZDNet for their coverage and podcast about the raise.

We’re very pleased to announce that we’ve raised a $21M Series A from Index Ventures, Root Ventures, and CRV.

Great Expectations is already the world's leading tool for data quality. It’s great to have plenty of fuel in the tank, because we have a long, exciting journey ahead of us. Our mission is to revolutionize the speed and integrity of data collaboration. Creating a shared, open standard for data quality is integral to that long term goal.

This blog post celebrates the fundraising milestone, and charts a course for where we plan to take Great Expectations next. We hope you’ll join us!

Thank you!

First, a big thank you to the Great Expectations community. To everyone who has spoken at a community show and tell, contributed code or improved the docs in a PR, or provided feedback in Slack or Githubthis is your accomplishment as much as the core team’s.

As we went through the fundraising process, one thing that we heard repeatedly from investors was, “What really sets Great Expectations apart is the fact that it’s open source, supported by a big, active community with obvious momentum. It’s unique in the data world.”

Thank you for supporting and contributing and sharing. Your energy, insight, and kindness make working on this open source project absolutely delightful.

We’re hiring!

Second, we’re hiring! Community and content managers, software engineers, designers, project managers, and many other roles. If you’d like to help build the future of data quality and data collaboration, please reach out via http://jobs.superconductive.com/.

Community support and roadmap

Third, as we build up the team, we’ll be able to support more input from the community: more contributions, more integrations, and more community events. It won’t happen overnight, but you should expect our bar for responsiveness and polish to rise substantially in the coming months. We’re very excited to move forward with features and documentation that the community has been clamoring for for months.

As a first step, we've scheduled a community meeting to get input on the roadmap for the project. You can sign up here.

Design partnerships program

Fourth, we’re excited to expand the design partnership program for Great Expectations Cloud, a paid product which greatly simplifies setup and provides a suite of collaboration and orchestration tools for managing data quality across an organization’s whole data infrastructure.

We’ve been working closely with an initial core of design partners for the last several months. The feedback and creative energy have been amazingwith input from our partners, we’ve arrived at a set of concepts and workflows that fit naturally on top of open source Great Expectations, and open up some entirely new possibilities for ensuring data quality and data collaboration.

We’ll have a lot more to share about Great Expectations Cloud in coming months. In the meantime, if you’re interested in participating in our design partners program, please sign up here. Space is limited.

Community charter

Finally, we’re taking this moment to publish a document we call the Great Expectations Open Source Community Charter. It describes the commitment and values that we bring to the Great Expectations community, and the impact we intend to have on the world.

Among other things:

Our commitment to open source: everything that is part of open source Great Expectations will always remain open. Superconductive (the company behind Great Expectations) will continue to develop and support both the open source library and the vibrant community around it. We will continue to seek and integrate input from the data community as we develop and prioritize features on the Great Expectations roadmap.

Index, CRV, and Root are all famous for their expertise in open source and developer tools. We’ve chosen to work with them specifically because they understand and respect the free-flowing power of an awesome open source community.

There’s a lot more to build. We're very excited to build it together with you!
