We’re excited to welcome Nevin Tan, Great Expectations’ newest senior developer advocate!
Nevin comes to GX from Shopify, where he was a senior developer advocate for three years. Though he’s new to the data quality space, he immediately recognized its importance as soon as he learned what GX does.
“I was actually quite surprised that there isn’t already a default for data quality,” he said. “Particularly with the advent of technologies like AI and LLMs, the quality of data will matter as much as the quantity. Providing people with an easy way of validating their data sounded like a no-brainer to me.”
Nevin’s perspective will be extremely valuable to our developer relations team: in addition to his work at Shopify, he also has extensive experience as both a developer and a product manager at Garner.
That means Nevin has been in the shoes of both GX’s users and of its product team, and he’s excited to put that experience to work.
“I really look forward to engaging with our developer community,” he said. “Not only to see how they’re using the product now, but to distill which wants would be best for us to address.”
At Shopify, Nevin worked closely with the team who maintained and contributed to the open source Shopify CLI. “It was very cool to be able to show it off to end users and gather their feedback on it,” he said, “while also working closely with the engineering teams within the company who maintained and contributed to it.”
Nevin is looking forward to doing the same with GX, especially because GX is at a stage where there’s still a lot of opportunity to guide exactly where it goes.
“I’m excited to help figure out where to take GX,” he said.
Nevin is based in Toronto, where he lives with his wife Lily and senior cat Charlie and usually uses dark mode. Outside of work, he enjoys Lego and video games, plays volleyball, and is an avid curler.
